December Notes

December 27, 2025

I found this post interesting, more because it blames the current solution to a real problem businesses face.

I sympathize with the author getting lumped in with bad actors on the internet just because of their physical location, and being forced to use a VPN just to get a sane browsing experience. The reality is that business want Cloudflare to help them stay accessible to their customers. Most businesses cannot afford to be taken offline due to a DDOS attack.

It would be great if Cloudflare wasn’t necessary, but that isn’t the world we live in.

A month ago I signed up for a month of Claude Pro from Anthropic, at the urging from my friends who also code for a living. They were adamant that Sonnet 4.5 was a game changer for software development. I was skeptical, because so many previous products in the LLM space were underwhelming when it came to code. I will likely sign up for another month of Claude Pro today. The ability of Claude Code to write code that I approve of is nothing short of shocking. As long as you can give it a good technical analysis and design to work from it will generate code that is correct and maintainable. It is a competent junior engineer that still requires lots of guidance and review, but never gets bored, distracted, annoyed, or tired. It has seemingly infinite knowledge about all things technology (but requires a human to apply wisdom).

It took only a month for me to realize that my future as a software engineer is no longer writing code by hand.
